Embrace Imperfection

We are all perfectly imperfect.

Embrace yourself, and embrace the imperfections in those around you. It feels so much better than living in judgment.

Try it.

When my own imperfections show up, I like to laugh at myself. Life becomes so much lighter when we stop taking ourselves so seriously.

Believing we should be perfect—or trying to live up to our idea of perfection—is exhausting. The truth is, all any of us can do is our best. And our best looks different depending on where we are in our journey.

Some people are further along in certain areas than others, but everyone is learning something. Everyone is growing in their own way.

I often notice my thoughts as I observe the people around me. Sometimes my thoughts are kind and generous. Other times they’re critical. I pay attention to both because they teach me far more about myself than they do about the other person.

When I find myself judging someone else, I ask myself, What is this showing me about me?

That question has become one of my greatest tools for growth.

Try it yourself.

Notice whether criticism is simply an attempt to make yourself feel a little better. Most of us do it without realizing it. It’s part of being human.

Instead, practice accepting what is without criticism. From that place of acceptance, ask yourself, Is there something I can improve? Is there a way I can support this situation instead of judging it?

Changing the way we think is possible. It simply takes awareness and practice.

At first, it may feel uncomfortable. That’s normal. Every new habit feels unfamiliar before it becomes natural.

Think of it like trying on clothes. If something doesn’t fit comfortably, you try something different. We can do the same with our thoughts. We don’t have to keep wearing beliefs that no longer serve us.

Our brains are designed to look for danger. That’s how we’ve survived as humans. But most of the time, we aren’t actually in danger.

We are safe.

When we begin to recognize that, we can stop scanning for what’s wrong and start appreciating what’s right in front of us.

It softens the way we live.

It softens our relationships.

It softens our experience.

And ultimately…

It softens us.

So today, ask yourself one simple question:

How do I want to think?

That one question has the power to change your entire experience.
