We Are More Than What We Can See

It is my belief that we are all spiritual beings.

I don’t expect everyone to believe that, but I have had enough experiences throughout my life that, for me, there is no doubt.

Recently, I met a woman who told me she doesn’t believe in anything spiritual. She is a scientist and believes only in what science can prove. I was fascinated. I asked her many questions because I genuinely wanted to understand her perspective.

As she explained her beliefs, I found myself feeling sad—not because she disagreed with me, but because I realized how much comfort, hope, and strength my own spirituality has given me throughout my life. I don’t know where I would be without it.

I believe we are all energy, and that our energy comes from our spirit. Sometimes we feel something before we can explain it. Sometimes we know something deep within ourselves long before our minds can make sense of it. To me, that is the language of the spirit.

Last year, I had a beautiful experience.

A dear friend of mine, who was like a mother to me, passed away at 98 years old. We loved each other deeply and were an important part of each other’s lives. She was a remarkable woman—kind, wise, generous, and full of grace. I admired her tremendously and hope to become more like her as I grow older.

On the day she died, I was sitting in my living room with a friend. As I stood up from the couch, I felt someone place a hand gently on the top of my head. It was so real that I instinctively reached up and placed my own hand where I felt theirs.

I looked at my friend and said, “Somebody is here.”

It was a peaceful, loving moment. I didn’t know who it was, but I welcomed it.

The next day, I learned that my dear friend had passed away.

In my heart, I knew she had come to say goodbye.

Some may explain that experience differently, and I respect that. But for me, it was a gift. It brought me comfort, peace, and a feeling of connection that words cannot fully describe.

It is only one of many experiences that have strengthened my faith that we are more than our physical bodies.

Whether your spirituality comes through faith, nature, prayer, meditation, quiet reflection, or simply listening to your inner wisdom, I hope you nurture that part of yourself.

Especially during life’s most difficult moments.

For me, spirituality has been an anchor. It has given me hope when I felt hopeless, peace when life felt unbearable, and love when grief could have consumed me.

It reminds me that love never truly leaves us.

And perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts of all.
